Achieve Lasting Wellbeing Through Mindfulness: Eastern and Western Practices

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the practice of cultivating awareness and living fully in the present moment.

It originated as a Buddhist concept aimed at achieving lasting happiness and freedom from suffering.

Traditionally, mindfulness involves observing your thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations with kindness, curiosity, and acceptance.

This allows you to develop a deeper understanding of yourself and the world around you,

Eastern vs. Western Mindfulness

Eastern mindfulness (Satthipatthana), rooted in Buddhism, emphasizes spiritual liberation. It teaches concepts like "non-self," "non-attachment," and "impermanence," encouraging us to let go of attachment to impermanent things, even our own identities. This allows us to embrace life's ever-changing nature and find peace in its spiritual core.

Western mindfulness, on the other hand, focuses on practical applications. It is used to reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and addictive behaviors. It emphasizes our tendency to react automatically to situations without considering the context. Mindfulness helps us become more aware, open to new experiences, and challenge our assumptions.

Modern Developments in Mindfulness

The field of mindfulness is constantly evolving. Two exciting new approaches are:

Positive Mindfulness: This combines mindfulness practices with techniques from positive psychology to boost overall well-being.

Embodied Mindfulness: This focuses on developing awareness of the body's signals and how they influence our thoughts and emotions.

How to Practice Mindfulness:

Mindfulness can be practiced formally through meditation or informally by bringing present-moment awareness to everyday activities.

My Approach:

I offer a comprehensive approach to Mindfulness, incorporating practices from both Eastern and Western traditions, as well as from Positive Mindfulness and Embodied Mindfulness, staying on top of the latest scientific research.
